Dear SLC COUNTRY OFFICE Managers:

I would like to clarify the procedures to apply for a room in our SLC Campus Residences.

SUMMER ACCOMMODATION (May to August):  When students need residence during the summer break, the process is handled by Mr. Richard Hogan and his team.  They look after our Conference Services and since the academic year is basically over for most students.  The residences are used to accommodate anyone who wishes to book a room during the summer, like a hotel.  Many Colleges and Universities across Canada do the same.  And many tourists stay and also many conferences are held in our campuses and conference participants stay in the Residence Rooms.

So if students want to stay in our residences during the summer, they need to be aware that there will be many people staying there who are not students and that regular residence life activities will not be available. Some students continue to live in Residence, but they are not the majority.  Also, a contract is not needed during the summer and the meal plan is not mandatory.  Students who want to stay usually pay a monthly fee of CAD$450.00 – if the stay is over 30 days, there is no tax.    If they only want to stay for a short time, then a daily rate of CAD$29.15 per day applies.  The daily rates are subject to taxes.

The reservations for summer accommodation can be made by contacting Mr. Richard Hogan at RHogan@sl.on.ca  or at  reservations@sl.on.ca

Web links with information about our summer accommodation can be found here:  http://www.stlawrencecollege.ca/campuses-and-services/residences/

FALL & WINTER SEMESTER ACCOMMODATION:  During the academic year, the process is different. Only students who have been accepted to SLC programs can apply for a Residence Room.  The application form for each campus can be downloaded from each Campus Residence Web Page:

Kingston:              http://www.stlawrencecollege.ca/campuses-and-services/residences/kingston-campus-residence/                          Contact:  Ms. Vicki Campbell  -  kresidence@sl.on.ca

Brockville:          http://www.stlawrencecollege.ca/campuses-and-services/residences/brockville-campus-residence/                          Contact:  Ms. Lana Campbell -    bresidence@sl.on.ca

Cornwall:            http://www.stlawrencecollege.ca/campuses-and-services/residences/cornwall-campus-residence/                                Contact:  Mr. Eric Widzinski  -  cresidence@sl.on.ca

The prices shown on the Residence Webpages are per academic year (2 semesters), but the Residence fee payment can be split into two equal payments, one each semester. An initial payment of $250 ($250 towards a damage deposit) is required at the time of acceptance to residence.

Once the Residence application form is completed, it must be sent by e-mail to the appropriate contact.  Each Campus Residence has a Manager.  That information is found on the links listed above.  The managers will reply confirming if space is available and if there is availability, they will send you/ the student a contract that will need to be signed and returned, along with the payment for the damage deposit.

Here are some important points:

-    STUDENTS ARRIVING FOR FALL SEMESTER:  Please note that if a student is arriving for the Fall semester, the Residence Contract is for 2 semesters (8 months).  This is mandatory.  In Kingston Campus, the $750.00 / semester meal plan is also mandatory.

Students who only want ONE semester will not be confirmed right away.  It is very unusual to accept students for one semester only.  The campus residence manager will have to make a decision on whether to accept the student or not.

We have a limited amount of space in each residence, so please make sure that the Residence Applications are sent as soon as the students are accepted into their programs and if possible before the end of March.  If the applications are sent after March, the Residence Managers will need to review their occupancy levels and will let you/us know if there is space available. They usually keep a waiting list as well.

-    STUDENTS ARRIVING FOR WINTER SEMESTER:  In this case, if rooms are available, they will be able to sign a one semester (4 months) contract. Meal plan is still mandatory for the Kingston Campus residence.  If the students want to continue to live in residence during the summer semester, then they will move to paying month to month and the SUMMER accommodation procedures I mentioned above take place.

For now, please make sure to copy Ivy and myself on all your requests to our Residence Managers so that we know what is happening and to make sure that all details are taken care of.  Thank you.
